Sierra | Blue Springs High School, Class of 2015

I first met Sierra toward the end of last year when she came to my studio for photos in her track and cross country gear. She is a natural model, so I had a great time working with her. I think we captured some nice, dramatic photos of her in the studio. Here’s one of my favorites:

After working with her in the studio, I knew her spring session would be awesome. I knew she’d make it easy on me because she’s easy-going, cooperative, and very photogenic. But my high expectations were completely surpassed. Seirra rocked her outdoor session from start to finish. Maybe it’s because we were already comfortable working together. Maybe it’s because we weren’t confined to the studio space. Maybe it’s because Sierra is absolutely gorgeous and glowing with personality, and I had more opportunities to capture her more of who she is this time around. Whatever it may have been, I’m thrilled with the outcome.

Katie and Scott

Any time I get a chance to take photos in a new place, it’s like Christmas for me. Any time I have clients to want to do things a little differently, it’s like my birthday. So working with Katie and Scott at the Kansas City Maverick’s ice skating rink was like having my birthday on Christmas. It was awesome! Except for the fact that my three-foot stepladder fell out from under my feet toward the beginning of the shoot. I am quite certain that I chipped an elbow bone, which doesn’t sound nearly as painful as it actually is. Or maybe I have a low tolerance for pain. But when the proverbial horse bucks you off and throws you to the ice, you check to make sure you didn’t break your camera, wipe a tear or two from your eyes, make sure your clients know it’s OK to laugh, and then get right back up on that horse (slowly and carefully, of course).
